Workspace
Personal and organisation workspaces
Keep private legal work separate while collaborating safely inside law-firm and legal-department organisations
Your first 8rney workspace is personal and is named from your display name, such as Aditi's workspace. If no name is available, it is called My workspace.
Personal is the default#
Existing chats, matters, documents, library items, preferences, and history live in personal after migration. Your first sign-in opens personal. Later generic visits reopen your last accessible workspace.
Personal is useful for individual legal work, evaluation, private preparation, and student tools. It is not a shared organisation folder disguised as a personal account.
Creating an organisation#
Creating an organisation gives you a fresh workspace with its own:
- Members, groups, guests, roles, and access policies.
- Matter and client records.
- Workflows, templates, custom fields, automations, and deadline rules.
- Documents, research history, knowledge, notifications, and integrations.
- Administration, audit, billing, retention, and AI governance settings.
No personal chats, files, matters, memories, or activity are copied into the new organisation.
Joining an organisation#
Accepting an invitation activates the organisation and shows only content permitted by your membership, role, group membership, and matter grants. Existing organisation content remains owned by that organisation.
Switching safely#
When you switch, 8rney navigates to the closest supported destination and clears workspace-scoped caches before loading the new tenant. Search, recents, notifications, Assistant context, and API requests all update with the active workspace.
Preferences and templates can be copied when both workspaces and their policies allow it. Copies receive new IDs and evolve independently. Chats, files, matters, memories, and activity cannot be copied.
