Research and matters in Desk
Use the research composer and manage matters directly from the desktop app
Research composer#
The Research composer in Desk works identically to the web platform — the same cited AI, the same pipeline modes, the same jurisdiction controls — wrapped in a native desktop window.
Settings panel#
The composer settings bar at the top of the research page exposes:
| Control | Options |
|---|---|
| Mode | Research, Draft |
| Jurisdiction | Indian, Canadian, and other legal systems |
| Verbosity | Concise / Standard / Detailed |
| Provider | Azure (default) |
| Pipeline | Balanced (default) |
Chat history#
Research threads appear in the left sidebar. Click any thread to reopen it. The desktop app keeps your full research history and syncs it with the web and mobile apps.
Streaming and tool call visibility#
As the AI works, the chat view shows which tools it is calling in real time:
- Using [tool name] — the tool call is in progress
- Completed [tool name] — the tool call finished and results were ingested
This mirrors the live activity feed on the web platform.
Formatted output#
Research responses render markdown formatting — headings, bullet lists, code blocks, and citation links — directly in the chat view. You do not need to copy into another app to read the output clearly.
Matters#
The Matters page in Desk lets you create and browse workspace matters linked to your local environment.
Creating a matter#
Open the Matters page and fill in the creation form. Give the matter a name and, optionally, a description and deal type. The matter is immediately available in your web and mobile workspace.
Matter list#
The matter list shows every matter in your workspace with its current status and last-updated timestamp. Click any matter to open its detail view.
Linking a local folder to a matter (via the Desk mode workspace selector) lets the agent operate within the context of that matter — research it cites and files it produces are automatically associated.
Settings#
The Settings page in Desk covers account-level and appearance preferences.
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Theme | System / Light / Dark |
| Account | Displays your email and workspace |
| Sign out | Signs you out of all Desk sessions |
Theme changes take effect immediately. The Saved indicator appears briefly to confirm the preference was recorded.
