Structured Legal Products
Generate complete multi-section legal documents from structured inputs using the SLP engine
A Structured Legal Product (SLP) is a complete legal document — brief, agreement, memo, or report — generated section by section from structured inputs. Where the Document editor gives you a blank canvas with AI assistance, an SLP gives you a scaffold: defined sections, each generated independently, assembled into a formatted final document.
When to use SLP#
Use SLP when you need to produce a complete document with a predictable structure, rather than a single draft response:
- Court briefs and written submissions
- Transactional agreements with standard sections
- Legal memos with a fixed structure
- Compliance reports
- Client-facing advice letters
How SLP works#
Create a new SLP
Go to Documents → New SLP (or open an existing one from the SLP list). Select the document type or start from a blank template.
Fill in the metadata
Provide the parties, governing law, jurisdiction, deal context, and any constraints that apply to the whole document.
Generate sections
Each section is generated independently. Click Generate on any section to produce a first draft, or write the section yourself and use AI to improve it.
Edit and refine
Each section is editable. Use the AI chat panel on the right to ask questions about a specific section, request rewrites, or add new subsections.
Export the final document
Export as DOCX or PDF. The SLP assembles all sections into a formatted document with correct pagination and structure.
The SLP chat panel#
Each SLP has a dedicated chat panel scoped to that document. Unlike the general research assistant, the SLP chat understands the document's context — the parties, governing law, and section content — and answers questions accordingly.
Ask it things like:
- "Is the indemnity clause in section 4 market standard for this deal type?"
- "Suggest language for a force majeure clause appropriate to an Indian governing law contract"
- "What am I missing in the representations section?"
Page-aware document parsing#
When you attach a reference document to an SLP, 8rney routes digital Office, text, and HTML files through MarkItDown and sends PDFs, scans, images, and other formats to Reducto. Reducto-derived pages retain page metadata so citations can reference locations such as "Page 7 of the uploaded term sheet" with precision.
Export formats#
| Format | Notes |
|---|---|
| DOCX | Formatted with headings, section numbering, and tables of contents |
| Print-ready, branded with firm name if configured |
For SLPs involving court filings, review all procedural requirements — page limits, font sizes, filing formats — before exporting. The SLP engine does not automatically enforce court-specific formatting rules.
