Google Drive

Connect Google Drive for just-in-time search and full sync — files surface in research and the AI agent

8rney integrates with Google Drive in two modes: just-in-time (JIT) search and full sync. Both modes make your Drive files available inside the Research assistant and the AI agent without requiring manual uploads.

Connecting Google Drive#

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations
  2. Click Connect Google Drive
  3. Sign in with your Google account and approve the requested permissions
  4. Your Drive is now connected

Permissions requested: read access to files and folders. 8rney does not write to or modify your Drive.

Just-in-time (JIT) mode#

In JIT mode, your Drive is searched at query time. When you submit a research question with the Drive integration enabled:

  1. 8rney searches your Drive for files relevant to the question
  2. Matching files are fetched and added to the AI's context window
  3. The AI uses your Drive content alongside the live legal databases

To enable JIT: click the integrations toggle in the research composer (the cloud icon next to the submit button) before running your query.

Best for: Ad-hoc queries where you occasionally want to include Drive context without committing to a full index.

Full sync mode#

Full sync indexes your entire Drive (or specific folders you select) into 8rney's search infrastructure. Indexed files appear in:

  • The Library alongside locally uploaded files
  • The @ mention menu in the research composer
  • The AI agent's available files
  • Drive sidebar browsing

To enable full sync: go to Settings → Integrations → Google Drive and turn on Full sync. Select which folders to include. The initial sync runs in the background — large Drives may take a few minutes.

Best for: Teams who use Drive as their primary document store and want seamless access everywhere in 8rney.

Drive sidebar#

When full sync is active, the Drive sidebar appears in the Library. Browse folders and files directly from 8rney without opening a Drive tab. Click any file to open a preview, attach it to a matter, or start a research session with it as context.

Drive file prompt trigger#

When you select a Drive file in the research composer, 8rney automatically runs a re-indexing check — verifying that the file's content is current before including it in the query. If the file has been updated in Drive since it was last indexed, it is re-indexed before the query runs.

Disconnecting Drive#

Go to Settings → Integrations → Google Drive and click Disconnect. This removes the OAuth token and stops all sync. Locally cached file content is deleted within 24 hours. Files you uploaded directly to the Library are not affected.

Note

Drive sync is scoped to your personal Google account by default. Enterprise workspace admins can configure shared drive access from the admin panel.
