Academic Mode

A focused personal workspace for legal study, teaching, exam preparation, and moot court

Academic Mode adapts a personal 8rney workspace for law students and faculty. It keeps the legal research, matter, and document capabilities of 8rney while adding guided study tools, academic personalisation, and a dedicated moot workspace.

Turn it on#

1

Open your personal workspace

Academic Mode is available in personal workspaces, keeping study and teaching activity separate from organisation content.

2

Open Settings

Under Profile, turn on Academic Mode.

3

Choose your role

Select Student or Faculty. You can change the role later without deleting your work.

4

Complete your profile

Add the classes, subjects, jurisdiction, teaching context, or learning preferences you want Study Tools to use.

What changes#

Academic Mode gives the sidebar a focused set of destinations:

  • Assistant — opens Study Tools for active legal learning and preparation.
  • Matters — keeps research, documents, and related work organised by subject or project.
  • Documents — stores notes, outlines, judgments, papers, and other source material.
  • Moot workspace — manages competitive moot preparation from issues through oral argument.

Inside Assistant, Study Tools are organised into Practice, Build, and Plan so you can start with the kind of academic work you need to do.

Student and faculty experiences#

Student profiles personalise sessions around classes, exam formats, bar jurisdiction, learning style, strong and weak subjects, and outline preferences. Faculty profiles add courses taught, teaching style, assessment formats, research interests, and source materials.

Note

Academic Mode changes the tools and navigation shown in your personal workspace. Turning it off does not delete your chats, matters, documents, profiles, or moots.
